Pain Service

Dorset Healthcare provide specialist support for people living with persistent pain, helping them to lead as fulfilling and independent lives as possible.

The Community Service offers support for all forms of chronic pain, including musculoskeletal (muscles, bones and joints), neurological (nervous system), internal organs and unexplained pain.

They offer a range of support and treatments, including:

  • Self-management strategies
  • Medication advice and guidance (not a prescribing service)
  • Injection therapy where clinically indicated
  • Psychological therapy
  • Physical therapy and movement to improve fitness and mobility
  • Complementary therapies such as TENS, meditation and relaxation
  • Group-based pain management programs.

There is also employment support available, to help people return to work or find a new job.

The community service is an Inter Disciplinary Team consisting of Consultants in Pain Medicine, Psychologists and Psychological Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Nurses and Pharmacists.

The service runs clinics and group programs in various locations across Dorset.
